Needs soms advice  has any one ever stained osage   And what is agood stain to use .I know the osage will turn dark over time  Thanks for the help Wytelale

I haven't used it on osage yet, but I have been using RIT clothing dye mixed with denatured alcohol on hickory and HHB with good results.  When roughing a bow out with the bandsaw, I will save a piece or two to test the dye on.

I don't stain osage bows because I like the natural color it turns.  You can use leather dye, Rit dye mixed with alcohol like Clint suggested or anoline (sp) dyes. All work well.

I've used leather dyes with good success on white woods. However, I've never died osage, and can't imagine why I would.

   I also just let time take it toll. O sage has lots of oils and risens in it and oil and stain dos'nt take to it very while.

Today I tried the steel wool and vinegar stain to antique my osage take down... :o ...be careful what you wish for  >:(

Wiping down osage with chlorox will also give you an "antique" look.

Get some arrow dye from Larry Maggard or Mike Yancy. That stuff will color it up for sure! My hunting bow is dark purple. :o
