TiteBond II and Sinew

 Can TiteBond II be used to glue down sinew?

I'm almost positive I've seen a youtube video where a guy does this.  FYI, TB II and III can have their drying window extended by adding a FEW DROPS of water.  Don't add to much and "break" it.  I used to use thined TBIII as an edge treatment on MDO signs.

I made a 54", 52#, at 27" draw sinewed osage using titebond. The bow has held its shape over 7 months and shoots great too. I am very happy with the results.

Any of the TB glues can be used with sinew but TBIII would be better because of it's moisture resistance.

  Ed Scott uses titebond  II to apply sinew in the Youtube video series "Bowmaking with Ed Scott Uncut" the videos are put on there by nmsugrants.  Great videos

Nolz, TB hide glue has an additive which shortens it's shelf life. If you use some that is out of date it takes forever to harden. Otherwise if it is fresh it should work well. I think I'd rather use granular hide glue or Knox gelatin.

I tryed it. I hated it. Mostly from the fact it takes forever to dry. (I used TB3 if it might have something to do with it.) It seems like it was even heavier than normal hide (or sinew) glue. I believe though that it was pointed out to me a way I could of did it to where it didn't take so long to dry. I think I might of layered too much tb on top as well. But thats my experience. And it did not reflex the way sinew backed bows normally reflex for me.

Yes you can use TBII/III.  Yes it provides a degree of protection against moisture.  BUT hide glue allows the sinew to shrink, pre-stress the back, and increase the performance of the bow.  I think TBII/III just prevents the back from lifting, stiffens the back, but the added weight improves the cast of the arrows as much as hide glue would.

But why?  Are you having a difficult time finding it?  If so, I can supply all that you would need.  It is in the granular form.  I'll trade you for something.  To me, if you are using natural sinew, then you should use a natural adhesive.  Sorry, just sayin'............

   I'm sure it will work because a long time back ( 20 years) I did one with ELMERS wood glue and it worked fine.
