Glue for leather pieces?
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:21:23 pm »
I am planning on glueing a piece of leather that I cut out of an old wallet into the sight window on my maple longbow. Can I use regular wood glue to do this, or do I need some other type of adhesive?

You can use wood glue for this. Another option is to use contact cement.

I recommend Barge with all the leather stuff and it works fine.  You can even sew through it after it sets up.  Short drying time.  It sticks on contact so you need to have it lined up right the first time!  A/Ho Joe.

I use Duco as it is water resistant. The wood glue won't last in the rain unless you use Titebond 2  or 3. Jawge

Barge cement, Duco... TB3 will work for water resistance too.  2 is less so.  Origional Titebond is not water resistant, so watch out for that.

I ike conatct cement because it can be removed later with almost no damage to the wood or finish.

FYI...Barge cement is the brand name for one of the contact cements. Weldwood contact cement might be easier to find than Barge but they are all basically the same.
