You won't believe what I found!
« on: August 31, 2011, 03:20:35 am »
Actually, I meant "YEW" won't believe what I found  >:D

And there is plenty more where that came from, especially if I do some splicing or take downs.

And here are some nice Hackberry, White Ash, Pignut Hickory and a lonely Mulberry.  There is probably 20 acres of these pipe straight trees, probably 40% Hackberry, 40% Ash, a sprinkling of Hickory, Beech and Maple.

I "culled" these few with a small hand brush saw that I keep in my truck and it was all I could basically fit into my truck since we had my wife, 2 boys and 2 dogs and my hawk in her hawk box.  I'll definately be heading back fo much more of the Hackberry and also to load up on some Mulberry.

I also never knew that Hackberry had that dark colored heart wood.

Thanks for looking~

That's a nice haul Lee, but I don't think that's Hackberry you are referring to. I have downed a bunch of it and it is white all the way through.

Thanks guy...

@Blackhawk, I know I have a bunch of spltting and debarking.  I just finished debarking 3 larger ServiceBerry, 2 Apple, 3 Slippery Elm and 1 Dogwood last week.  I have actually gotten all the Yew debarked and sealed yesterday and also one of the Pignuts.

@JonW, ok...I'll thanks for the heads up.  Another mystery wood, ugg.  The leaves sure as heck looked and felt (the were abrasive and "toothy" to the touch) like Hackberry and the bark looked like a perfect match.  Now I am wondering what it might be?

Outstanding!  The best part is when you're all done and all of those little lovelies are sealed, drying out and resting peaceably...nice haul...
