Viburnum Arrows

Im still in process of making some viburnum arrows.  I wanted to try and heat straighten some small bends that are still in them.  Do I need to put some kind oil on them to keep from scorching the shafts?

I use cooking oil when I'm straightening any hardwood shoots and after final straightening I will come back, starting at one end and re-heat as you rotate and work out the shaft towards the other end. This will temper the shaft and you can add a little scorching to decoration. Once done I lay it flat until completely cool.

  I also use cooking oil. This year was the first time tempering them after straighting in the oven. I used oil here also. Worked really well. Give it a try.
