Stain over titebond?

Can you put a stain over titebond II?  I'm going to lay some cotton fabric over the backing...real light stuff, I mostly want the pattern.  I'm going to lay it down with Titebond II.  Can you put stain over that?  If so, how long does it need to sit before the stain can be applied?

Why not stain the cotton before you glue it down?

I was worried about it adhering.  However, looking at the cotton while it's on the bow after gluing it down, I'm hoping it doesn't stain...I'm going to have to go around it.  It's already a lot darker than I had intended.  The stain might make some of the pattern indiscernible.

Try  out the procedures on  pieces of scrap wood first and see how you should proceed.

I doubt the stain will do much through the titebond!!

I actually think it didn't do anything to the titebond...a few spots where the glue had run over and I didn't catch to file back down to the wood it barely touched.  The stain did put a nice texture over the cloth, though.  I'll start a thread about it shortly.

  I know of a guy that said he dyed elmer glue once. Try this and see if you can.

These glues are essentially water based so they'll dye with any water based dye before they set...that's easy enough.  But I didn't want a colored glue.
