Started on this bow a couple months ago and took it to Mojam to play with in the heat. Immediately took a liking to the top limb, but pretty disapointed in the lower limb as it didn't match the rest of the bow. Wanted to see how I did with a "snakey osage bow", and knew the tiller was gonna be tough. As usual, I had plenty of good eyes around camp and we got her pretty close. Unfortunately, It came in plenty light so I brought it home and cut an inch and a half off each end. That helped me hit target weight and it still had plenty of draw length. Used a "holey" skin I got from a friend to enhance the snake and fortunately all the holes were on the sides. Finished with urethane and a satin coat to follow.

Wish it would have had a matching bottom snakey limb, but still pleased with the outcome. Planning to take it to the woods of Colorado and hunt elk with it here in about a month. Will let ya'll know what comes of that (assuming I make it back  >:D)

Bow came in at 60# @ 29" and stands 64" tall

Wow and I thought the Hickory stave I am working on had a jacked up looking limb.
Simply a beautiful  bow you got there. Nice craftsmanship.
Good luck on the Elk hunt.

Lovely bow.  I would say that at least 75% of the osage bows I make are like that.  Early in my bow making career I would curse the crooked limb and wish I had 2 straight ones.  Now, like you, I'm disgusted that both limbs aren't crooked and filled with character.  It really is a rare  tree that produces a stave with character all the way.  Good luck on your elk hunt.  I need to get my elk bow done.

Thanks all. "ole ugly" came from a remark made at mojam and it just stuck in my head. I'm with you guys and really like the character, but I'm sure the name will make more sense to my friends who still shoot with training wheels.

Probably either Flat top or Routt national forest. Will be my first time so I'm not expecting alot. Just want a good hunt, can't think of a better way than with a stick bow and cane arrows.

Of course you can't see the ugly part, his whole face is backlit and you can't make out his features.  It's obvious he wasn't referring to the bow, after all!!!    >:D
