I saw my very first yew tree tonight! I've seen grainy pictures of yew trees and bows but never until now have I seen a yew tree. I was walking around the local lake in the center of town, when I began to wonder if there were in fact any yew trees around. I thought, "the lake has been here for over 70 years (manmade) and has lots of old, and beautiful trees, so there must be at least one!" As I look up after that exact thought, I see it. I have never seen one "in the bark", haha, but I know this is it. It has scraggly limbs, with scraggly needles, the bark is scaly, it certainly stands out. Its profile is unmistakable, and there is an aura of great age, power, and wisdom surrounding it. Coming back to my senses, I notice a placard near the base of the trunk that reads "Irish Yew 'Taxus baccata'" It is a beautiful thing.
Call me weird but there was something magical about seeing that tree. The Yew tree no doubt in my mind contains a wise, knowledgable spirit about it.
