Some pics from the "knappin pit" at Twin Oaks
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:02:12 pm »
I had the pleasure of knapping with Shannon "SAWFILER" and John "Iowabow" this weekend at the IBO Shoot down the road from me at Twin Oaks. I brought Shannon some rock I got in TX that I had been holding onto for a while. He said he thought it was raw alabites or some sort of jasper. At one point, with his hand bleeding he asked "what is this DEVIL rock you brought me?" He ended with a pretty awesome cornernotch  and in return gave me a beautiful point made from some carter cave along with some super high grade Kentucky Blue nodules. Shannon, THANK YOU  I had a great time and learned alot fella! Heres some pics from the pit. Enjoy!  :) :) :)

Jamie, Mullet Im pretty sure that place misses yall as well. Everyone I talked to asked me if I had met you yet mullet...they just had the nicest things to say about you. And Jamie, every time I told Shannon he was amazing he would say something like "well you just wait till you meet Jamie" I hope to see both of you guys at next years Classic.  ;)

What a pleasure it was to meet you Will and Shannon finally.  That was a real good time and if I can make it down for the classic I darn sure will! Shannon sure is an exceptional talent and it was great to study his technique. Most friendly  group of people you will ever meet. That cat was a trip sleeping on sharp as razer flint chips.  All three of those points look amazing.  I will post some pics on here if that is ok with you?

Hardly recognize the pit without torrential downpours ;D Great pics and that is the first knapping cat I've ever seen

Thanks

I can't believe Shannon  bleeds ;D, Just seeing the pics of the pit made me awfully homesick for the sounds of flint being tuned up. Can't wait to get back to the pit an see all my knapping friends. Later Bob

If you have never been to twin oaks you have to go sometime.  Here is a photo that show the set up from the back side. On the left is a bow making shop full of benches and jigs and every kind of tool need for bow building.  To the right is the knapping pit.
