Started some poplar arrows

These are some 3/8" dowel rods I bought at lowes. I usually saw up boards and plane them down for arrows but I thought it would be so much easier to use dowel rods if they would fly good. I have used lots of other woods for arrows but this is my first try with poplar and I have to say they shoot great and they seem surprisingly tough! They are 30" long and weigh in at about 650 grains. These are the only 3 I have made up so far but I'm still workin on gettin a few more done.

   COOL I've used popular shoots a good deal and the are quite tuff and stay staight after tempering them.

Cowboy, I live in Muldrow. Its  on the Arkansas/ Oklahoma stateline just a few miles west of Fort Smith.  You in Oklahoma too?

I've shot them from several different bows but they fly the best out of a 60# osage bow.

Nice, these give me some hope. I am still working on getting my set up all together, just finishing up my arrow spine tester. Got myself a 3/8" Veritas dowel cutter so I can cut myself some square stock from straight grained board, then run through the dowel cutter and then test them out on the spine tester. Do you know what they spine or just weight matching? I know you said they shoot best out of your 60# bow.

Sorry Stingray i dont know what spine they are exactly. I just made em and started shootin em out of a 40# bow and worked my way up from there. It worked out pretty good because the bow they shot best out of was going to be my main hunting bow for this year anyways. I need to rig myself up a spine tester its just something I havent gotten around to doing yet.

what did you use for the wrapping?  Looks like those would cut your hand when shot...or atleast take some skin off.

aznboi, Its just some old string material I had. B-50 I think. I was shooting them from bows with shelves cut in.
