solid hickory takedown

Just thought I would share an easy to make simple takedown from a solid hickory bow by cutting the limbs off of the riser with a bandsaw,  A couple of bolts on each limb and POOF a simple takedown bow made easy. 
The bow here is 45-50@28". Needs some finishing I know, but, I didnt want to wait to show this bow. The bolts are from the local hardware store. Hope you like it.

It will be nice to see this finished.
JW a few guys, Marc St Louis and Robustus (James Parker) to name a few have done this and used horn or antler to make heads for the bolts so you could take them down without tools and keep a primitive look.
Also a few years ago Marc St Louis did an article entitled Modern/Primitive Takedown for the magazine that utilized limbs from two broken bows to make a bow similar to this. The article has all of the detail you could want, and it is a great way to use broken bows that would otherwise be firewood.

Bow Nut, if the right piece of wood with the right grain configuration is used an unbacked board bow should last as long as any wood bow and I have all wood bows with quite a few thousand shots through them.

thats cool I know hickory is durable as can be but was not sure how it would stand up to many shots with no backing from a board good to know I think I will try one of these  thanks
