backed locust
« on: June 04, 2011, 06:39:30 pm »
I've got a nice piece of black locust sitting against the wall and don't like the back of it. Been wantin to use the stave for a bow and thought about backing it. I've read on here that locust is tension strong and not a good choice for backing. So I need to hear a final verdict before I go unbacked on this.

Can I use bamboo or hickory as a backing on a mildly reflexed bow design using Black locust?

I  have  a  hickory  backed  black  locust    62"  t2t   real  nice  bow  great  shooter  use it  for  turkey  blinds  likes  a  heavy  arrow   IMHO   I  agree  w\  tbb  about  locust  wanting  perfect  tiller!!!   the  short  ones  you  need  to  go  slow!!!  I  mean slow  don't  rush!! I  think  bl   needs  to  rest  more  between  secions  I  haven't  built  many  bend  in  the  handle  bows  but  I  think  one  of  these  w\  black  locust  would  be  perfect!!!   BTW   locust  is  my  favourite!!!   JEFFW   GOOD  LUCK
