It ain't real slick but at least it ain't broke in half, haha.. I told them boys i could build a point before they could hang that ring. I know who's buying the beer this evening ;D.

Dangit I need to give this knapping a try and soon!  My two boys are chomping at the bit to give it a go and I am as well...just need to find a source of suitable local rock that will give us a decent shot at some marginal success.

Check your local source for lanscape rock.  Sometimes they have stuff that will work and if you tell the owner what you're looking for, I'm sure he will let you buy a few buckets for cheap.  Agate cobbles, sea glass, white chert, and basalt are usually available.  Some of it may require heat.

Thanks bud, having a "hit list" of a few decent choices like you gave me should really help out.  I'll dig up my local yellow pages and see who I can find thats close enough for a drive by visit next time I'm out.  Very cool!

Sometimes those landscape places will order in obsidian chunks to sell for deccorative purposes. Last load I got was around 35 cents a pound for snowflake. Good luck.
