black tupelo/gum

this is a link to the first warbow i made, its black tupelo/gum, pulls around 120-130 @32,
i know it has a horrible tiller, but originally it was around 10ft, and left strung with around an 18inch brace height for 2 weeks , at the handle it is the entire thickness of the sapling i used
i am going to cut some more soon, and this time dry it before use. i originally thought that it was just a sluggish wood, but as it cures even more its picking up speed by the day and quickly making me wish i did a better job

by the way, first time after i cut it down to 7ft that i shot it, it had so much hand shock it flew 5ft out of my hand

With only the top limb doing any bending, it's amazing that bow even held together. Quite shocking, really.

thats why i want to try a properly designed bow, it seems like tupelo is almost bullet proof, but from what i have heard, splitting it into staves is a nightmare, i may just have to go for another sapling, or if i can, saw it
its so tuff that one of the many seriously violated knots, split and started to peel, and all i had to do to stabilize it was wrap it with epoxy soaked cloth

I like the videos keep em coming and dont forget to breath when pulling those heavy weight bows lol I kept picturing you slip at full draw and watching that arrow go through the wall  sorry I hope that doesnt sound mean and it could be dangerous but if it did happen you could send it to funniest home videos lol thanks for posting this video

Noel the video is cool.I am not real interested in these heavy bows and the verbage from some gets stuffy so "Warbows" is not my favorite place to visit. However, its fun to watch you building these bows and then shooting them . Carry on young man.

Black gum is almost impossible to split in my experience. I once wrecked a borrowed log splitter with the stuff. Good luck.

Out of interest how do you weight your bows.

i weighed one on a bathroom scale, then use it to estimate the others, but once i start my job this summer im going to get a 200lb scale
