Pop Goes The Weasle

Finished tillering a flatbow (found a way so my knee don't hurt) and it came in at 40# at 26" I was thinking of sinewing it and was asking questions in another thread Decided not to sinew it, and took it out to shoot it in. Shot maybe 10 times and it exploded.
A sore jaw later and I have firewood. The bow is (was) a white oak selfbow 55" ttt handle 1 1/4 wide 4" 1 1/2 fades tapering to 2" parallel to 8" from tips and tapering t0 3/4" with 1/4" pin knocks. I reckon I can cut the handle off, sand it down and reuse it

Hell and damnation Mark !!!!! it does look to the old man that ya got a pin knot running edge to edge dead center in the break though, maybe could have been the responsible gremlin. That's too bad, sir.

Did it smack your jaw? Shame it broke - looked like a nice bow. Hope you don't lose any teeth from it

Im no expert, but I don't think sinew would've held a horizontal to the back pin knot in such a high stressed area by the fade. But who knows and one can only speculate and guess that. But I think you made a wise choice to not sinew and saved yourself a lot of work and even more trouble. To me sinew should go on a "worthy" of such honors stave. That one was knot. Im sure you got the ice pack out. Better your jaw than an eye.

Thanks Lee..As soon as I get this surgery out of the way, I'll get back up to speed
blackhawk......I'm glad I didn't. I think I would have been more upset about loosing the sinew

George....with my draw at 25.5" and double that + 10% = 56" plus keeping it wide. Shouldn't that have made a good knot free bow?
I will go read that and TBB thank you. Always looking to improve
