Cherry staves?
« on: May 29, 2011, 04:45:59 pm »
My friend took a cherry tree down in February, he saved me a 8 in. Diameter limb, 7 ft long & sealed the ends. I've 0 experience splitting staves, but want to learn!! So my first idea is to try and get a few of the staves to have some sapwood, and the sapwood will be the back of stave. Having never tried this I want to quarter the log and if it splits in straight lines, I'll then further reduce to staves. Any ideas will be appreciated

failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.
