arrow finish suggestions wanted
« on: June 01, 2011, 10:27:02 pm »
I have painted up the nicest wooden arrows I have ever made.  Before I fletch them I wanted some advice on how to seal them.  I have more experience with cane so wooden arrows are new horizon to me.  Should I seal them then fletch?  If so what should I use?  I am open to native American methods as well as more modern substances.  I know you folks out there in PA land have plenty of experience on this matter.  Thanks in advance.

I love 6 coats of Tru-Oil, but hate that kind of effort.  I tried the gasket lacquer and loved how two coats for a dozen arrows can be done in under 15 minutes, but I hate the way the finish is ruined if you try to heat straighten an arrow that takes a bend.

I've also used good ol' poly-you're-insane with good results.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
