New Purpleheart flute with Video!
« on: May 23, 2011, 01:27:37 am »
Okay okay okay... I know you guys are probably tired of seeing my flutes by now so this is the last one for awhile.  I wanted to try purpleheart for a flute so here it is.  I alternated it with yellowheart for the mouthpiece and the bird is ash with a strip of purple heart running down the center.  I really like the way this one turned out.. I don't like the way it sounds as much as I like my cedar ones before but this one turned out really nice in appearance.  I will include a video at the end so you can hear it.   Also check out the stand I made for it too in the last pic.  Thanks for looking!   :)

...and the sound clip....

That a real beauty.Sounds great too. My daughter plays flute in the band and I bought her a flute at the Twinn Oaks shoot. It's made from pine and not nearly as nice as yours. She thought it was really cool though.

I've got to do some research and learn how to make a really nice one like yours.

Thanks Josh and R.H.

I used Michael C's buildalong to make my first one and just used his dimensions.  I have only been making and playing these things for around 6 weeks or so.  There is a wealth of info on Yahoo Groups "Native American Flute Building" that has greatly enhanced my flute building.  Good luck on yours!

Man that is a beautiful piece of work.  Id like to make one but I'm almost afraid of another addiction.  My wife already says I'm obsessed with knapping and bow making. :D ;D
