Birch! Checked off.
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:44:19 pm »
Hey all. Its been a while since I posted a bow on here. Doesn't mean I haven't been making them though. Anyway, this is my first birch bow. Cut the tree down a couple months ago. Im not sure but I think it is yellow birch. Bark was grey but i dont know if the bark changes as it gets older, cause this tree was only about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Just want to say that whatever birch it is i love the wood. Great stuff. So bow specs, 59" ntn, 50 lbs @ 26", had dried into about 1 1/4" of reflex before starting. keeps about 3/4" reflex after unstringing. Round 13 oz. Will have finished pics later. These are where I'm at now. Just teasers, Enjoy...

Good to see you post again, Ms. Pink!

Nice character in that birch, would have never guessed birch for character wood!  Nice looking shooter.

That looks really sweet... I gotta try some of that Birch, there's tons of Silver Birch near me, dunno if that's any good.

Now you did it! There's a blown over birch behind the house with the roots still intact, its alive yet. Looks like me and Ms. Chainsaw have a date tonite. Nice work on a small sapling!

Cool bow!  Don't know if I've seen a birch example, yet.  I really like that first photo.  Great stuff!

That is a cool bow!
Nice to more birch as it is whats readily available to me.
I recently made my first shooter from it and i agree,it is nice to work with.
@ Del the cat Silver birch is more likely to have "character"If you want straight wood find a downy birch, they grow in GB from what i can see.

50# draw, 500 grain arrows, and 205 yds?  That's respectable in anyone's book.  You hunting with this bow this fall?  Please say yes!
