sinew.patch
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:00:43 am »
thanks for the ideas Marc,
i've made the sinew patch, and it seems to holding ok shooting some arrows this evening.
in the pic. the string wrap is more or less to hide the not so pretty ends where i skived the sinew down
tapering it to the bow surface .didn't want the sinew to just end abruptly.

the tillering IS a little out of wack....the patched limb shows the most arc
if i re tiller i'm obviously going to lose #

but at least i have something to shoot with, till my other bows are workable.
and i also learned that in an emergency a slight crack CAN be patched
so..... its not quite ready to become kindling.

Sinew is magic stuff... Never tried a lengthwise patch but that's a good idea.
I had a couple bows that had bad spots which I wrapped with sinew and it has kept them shooting. So far...

a slight tilt profile of the sinew patched bow at full draw.
theres obviously more bend or hinging in the crack area....but the patch is holding well after a couple hundred shots.
( could have shaved more wood off closer to the grip )

two persimmon bowstaves are roughed and clamped, two hackberry bowstaves roughed and clamped, some nice staves of K.Coffee Tree.
and another hickory bow just about tiller ready... this is kind of addicting aint it?
