A couple ounces of resin, (plus however much catalyst powder is called for for that much volume...) would be plenty, I would think.  You want the glue to squish out of the joint everywhere so as to be sure that contact is made everywhere in the joint, but more than that is not necessary.  Use something like a 1-inch paintbrush to apply the glue to the working surfaces.

I mix 2 parts resin to 1 part powder. Never had a failure.

The best glue applicator is a cheap toothbrush. You can really work the glue in and spread it it evenly.

I just glued in a Torges belly patch on an osage selfbow and it worked great. I mixed it 2 parts resin and 1 part powder in a couple medicine cups that come with liquid tylenol.

I heated it with a clamp light clamped to the bow above thew patch and it was dry in about 2 hours. I love the stuff and will use it from now on.
