silicified limestone?

Doing some "homework" for a flint run......does "silicified limestone" = knappable....atleast in theory?

hmm well it would appear that the place where this 'silicified limestone' exists, had been turned into something else....so not sure if there is any exposed there or not.....back to the drawing board

Yep, there's some in eastern TN that percussion knaps about like mid-grade rhyolite. Works good with wooden billets. You can't make anything small and detailed out of most of it, but it's good for big Savannah Rivers, axes, and such.

Any pictures of the stuff? Ain't nothing but limestone around my neck of the woods. I've picked up a bunch of building stone that has that ting, ting, ting sound when ya tap it but never tried to knap any..

Paul, usually if it makes a loud, clear ting when you tap it, you can fram it with a wooden billet. Alibates is actually a really high grade silicified limestone/dolomite.

That close up shot of the one in your hand does resemble some kind or rhyolite, rips and tears everywhere - looks tough. I read about the allibates dolomite today. By the looks of the pictures theirs tons of it in that ten square mile area but nobody can touch it. I need to get ahold of El Destructo!

That grey stuff looks like Dolomitic limestone.

That's what it is, Eddie-silicious dolomitic limestone from the Knox formation.
