Hickory flatbow
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:02:20 am »
It's been a while since I posted a hickory bow. This one is a little shorter than I usually build,so with that difference ,I decided to post.Mockernut Hickory,@ 6" diameter.50#@26". It is 62" tip to tip,(the typical hickory I build is at least 68").It is 1 5/16" at the fades, and 5/16" at the string nocks. 8" of the handle section is static. Tip overlays,glue-on arrow rest, black dye on the handle and back, then lightly sanded off the high spots.Dyed calfskin grip. Holds 1" reflex, and is quite fast, and very quiet. ;)  God Bless

Beautiful bow! I'm making the same style right now. My first bow though, so it probably won't look so pretty nor will it probably survive. But here's hoping! Great inspiration.

Perfect Flatbow - Did you put it on a caul / form and heat in some reflex, or was the stave natural ??  I can't see how anyone could build a finer example !!!
