The sapwood is under the bark right?

I thought this would amuse you guys.
This Yew stave is from the same log as the last bow I posted. As I was debarking it it felt funny and the wood felt more like heart than sap.
When I roughed it out on the bandsaw I saw why.
Who's been messing with the sap wood?! It's in the middle!

It's all rather pale as it's just rough sawn, the bark side is to the left.
Maybe I'll have to make it as a tri-lam

Looks like a lot of sap wood there,I have had some ERC look like that,all sap and very little heart wood.Don't know why.

Looking whole sap! May thats another kind of yew? It is yew shure and cut the same place. Some of tham have normal looking and some of tham has very light colors.
I think thats a hybrid

Yeah, but It's not supposed to matter.
I've taken the draw knife to it and ripped off that outer layer of slightly darker wood, it's looking a bit better now.
That stripe of white sap wood looks just right, but it's in the wrong place!
The heart wood is tad pale, but like I say it's the same log that gave me this bow http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,24423.0.html

That darker rings in sap means compression wood.

Actually I think I can see the heart sap boundary (it always shows better when the wood is polished)
See that bit of pine needle type leaf stuck on the end just past the 6 o'clock? The lower right end of that seems to be right on the boundary, and you can see it follows all the way round.
That would look to be where you'd expect it too on a bit of fast growing Yew. It is a bit indistict tho', make the bow and leave it for 5 years the heart wood will darken up nicely
