Shannon Walker gave me a persimmon stave at the classic last year, I had told him to get me a good one, and boy did he come through!
This is the first persimmon I have ever worked, as the good trees here at home are few and far between.
This wood really surprised me. Once I got it dry it had more spring in it than most woods I have handled. The wood is actually kinda bland in color so I decided to try something a little different on the back.
I had a copperhead skin that was holey and torn in several places; I ripped it down its center, and then just kinda cut all the bad off leaving the main pattern. Glue it down, very carefully, and then finished it with ploy. Not real sure how much I like it, but it is a way to use up bad skins and gives the bow some character.
65” ntn-54# @ 27”. (Kinda heavy for the lil feller but he can grow into it). :-\The tip overlays are from lace wood. I induced 3” of reflex and it retains 2” after rest. This is also the first time for me to build a grip with a shelf. May have to do a few more of them.
I guess I’m done with it, so he can have it back.
