nice wood you can get them at the woodcraft store they have crosscut saws ads froes wood chisels anything to do with wood got some nice knife blanks too.

Hi Neighbor, Yes it is a nice one, Walnut is a great wood to work, cuts nice with the drawknife 

Hope to get some more work done on it this weekend !

Well got some shop time yesterday, it was taking awhile witht he drawknife, so i thought i would try and take a split off the belly...Not a good idea !




Well into the corner with that piece and on to the next, this one ended up with a little twist at the tips, but i think most will tiller out.

 

Keep working with the drawknife.



Rough profile 68" ttt alittle over 2" from handle to 8" from the tips, then tapper to 1" for now.

Looks like  that froe made a nice clean split.  Could probably make one with some 1.5" or 2" iron pipe welded to a piece or 5/16" or 3/8" flat if you don't have a truck leaf spring lying around.  I may have to make one of those.  Looks really handy. 

That's some pretty wood you got going.  Will be interested to see how it turns out.

I don't blame you Bandsaws are handy for stuff like that with less chance of going off course. It is hard for me to get good bow wood in the frozen north so I like to make the most of what I do get. It has cost me a time or two as well Sorry to see you oops-ed on the first one. The second try is looking great though.

I agree with you on that point John!  I have a beautiful spliced osage bow from Gary Davis and skins to back it with but the grain is so unusual, I think I'll keep it natural.
