tip overlays on uneven oasage back?

if a guy wanted to put tip overlays on an osage bow but the back of the osage was not nice and square and flat at the tips....what would that guy do?

Measure down from the tip 1-1/2 - 2 " or whatever size your overlays are going to be and flatten it out.

What okie said!  Here's a couple of pics of one I did, just that way.  I cut and filed the tips down, glued on about right sized chunks of maple using Titebond III, then filed and sanded to shape.  Worked real well.

Here is one I just prepared for gluing on a BBO and do it exactly the same on a selfbow. If you cut at a little angle toward the belly your overlay will be slimmer and not look like a big hump perched on the back of your bow.

In most cases tip overlays are purely cosmetic. They are not needed but do look good on a bow.
