Tip overlay silly question

I am making my first board bow.  i plan to back it with burlap.  Here is the silly question.  Do I back the bow first and then put on the overlays or do I overlay first and run the burlap backing up to the tip overlay?  I am  using deer antler for the tip overlays.

you should always glue the overlays onto the back of the bow. if not, it his hard to sand the fades in without messing up the backing. i dont think tips would adhere very well to most backings either.

You are not going to want to put the tips over burlap. You should adhere the tips directly on the wood. Run the burlap up to the tips if you wish.

I've gotten away with the backing ending 6-8" from the tips three times now.  I kept those sections stiffer than the working limbs though.
