56" 0f Osage, Rattler, linenen and rawhide
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:48:42 pm »
Here is one of my favorite bows that I have made. Pictures cant do it justice but thats ok!

56" Osage. 60#@26". Rattle snake skins covering a TB2 sinew job. This has rawhide grip and rawide tip wraps. The string is linen. The arrow is rivercane and ash with a trade point.

Baker no-nock knots:

Front profile:

Braced:

Full Draw:

This bow shoots fantastic. I really like it. The bow is not finished yet as i usually do not finish bows until they are well seasoned. When I do it will get true oil.

Thanks for looking:

Very nice bow.  Good draw weight for a 56" bow with a  26" draw.  Justin

Very nice little bow. How many courses of sinew did you add? What is the width?    1 1/2"?      Pat

Thanks fellas,

I have been making so many replicas latley and helping othre swith bows that I have not made an original loosely composed bow that is just what it is. If was good to make one. I am getting ready to head into the shop to take a few Achumawi repliacs off the sinew caul and wanted to get this one up prior to re-emerssion on replicating. Glad you all like it.

Finnish N: Sorry I did not take a side profiel....should have though! maybe I can get one on later. It is a bit snakey with just a hint of reflex.

Jamie, Thanks man! Hows everything up in Pt. huron? I am still hoping that yu can make one of my Thursday night bow nights soon. This thursday we are skipping pizza because the grill is now offically open. We provide dogs and burgers. Yes, the lines in the tip wraps are where i tied them to dry. It will make ridges which are intentional to the way i designed this bw. They look very cool. The line will not stick to rawhide after the stuff is dry. Peels right off. Have only made this one bow with TB2.

PatB. 1 1/2" all the way to the last 8" then the bow tapers to 5/16" at the tip. This bow has 2 layers of sinew. The TB2 worked ok....I did not hydrate the sinew enough for the bow to take massive reflex. When unstraung it will show maybe 1/2" reflex. after letting rest maybe 1.5". I do not blame the TB@ as much as my own lack of hydrarting the sinew enough. Its also as I mentioned on another thred very very ugly. Thats why this is skinned.

Kowe, I think she is gonna hunt real good.

One of the best looking bows I've seen on this forum since joining! Love it, looks real clean and simple as already stated.
Man its gonna be another tough vote for B.O.M.

Some people just know how to make a primitive bow. You got my vote on this one.  Got you bookmarked for May Self Bow of the Month.
