Titebond Hide glue?

I was looking at a website that has all sorts of woodworking tools and stuff. I wondered into the glue area and say Titebond liquid hide glue...? Has anyone used this before? Any good? It says you don't have to heat it to apply....?

Good for certain applications, the only problem with it is it does have a shelf life. I never buy it unless I can test it myself.

I remember reading something that said it has something in it to keep it liquid that you generally dont want in your hide glue. Dont qoute me on that though.   8)

Snag, I was looking through a new Grizzley tool catalog the other day and found powdered hide glue in the instrument building section. Pretty reasonable too.

I bought a can of powdered hide glue in a can from a wood working store. I have not used any of it yet but it was fairly cheap.

I have used Titebond 3 with rawhide backings with pretty good results.  Haven't yet tried it for anything else.  I think, think Ed Scott might use it with sinew, judging by the color from his videos, but please don't quote me on that.

In my opinion Tite bond hide glue is wonderful for fabric backings: silk, linnet etc.  As long as you have a good water resistant finish to put over it.  It has a slow set time,  you can work out kinks by re-hydrating the problem area, it dries hard and flexible.  I dig the stuff, but make sure you apply a good finish when your done.

It's the cat's meow for doing snake skin and rawhide backing. Store it in the refrigerator when not in use and it will keep a long time.
