Great bow Eddie!!

If yer wondering,... I haven't worked up that bamboo-backed Ipe stave yet because my friend with his bandsaw, MOVED!  haha
So I'm at a standstill with it...I'll post pics when I tackle it though!!  ;) ;D ;D

 Jason, all you need is a sharp, hatchet. Draw out your shape with a marker or pencil and then chop away down the edge. Then, clean it up with a Rasp and file, and go to scraping. I made my first Osage with a hatchet, pocket knife and small wood cleaver.

Just picked up a nice antique hewing head from an ax,.... gotta get a handle,... clean it up then go to town! :)

 George,
 There was still a little on the ground and more was coming Saturday. My Grandson got to play in it for the first time. He had never seen snow or been to the mountains.

Great looking bow you lucky dog you. Two questions: what is the draw weight? and correct me if I'm wrong, the thumb ring is necessary because of the string angle? Man, with that little bow you will be able to hide in a lettuce patch.

Grunt, the thumb ring is a simple but ancient release aid. When using one you place the arrow on the right side of the bow for right handed shooting. When shooting regular style with 3 fingers the fingers open to the left. With the thumb(ring) it opens to the right so the arrow is shot from the right side. I don't think it has to do with string angle but with shorter bows finger pinch can be a problem and with a thumb ring it is not.

With this bow and the way it is tillered, it is best to shoot with the thumb ring. If not, I have to turn it over and shoot with two fingers under the arrow. When James first called and said it was finished the bow was 58# @ 28". When I was shooting it it was sleeting a little and cold. The bow was then 52# @ 28". Down here in Florida yesterday with the temperature around 72, it was 55# @ 28". With the thumb ring I'm pulling it back close to 31" or 32". I'll take pictures of the thumb ring and finger placement when I get home.

 George, his mother thought it would be an adventure and wonderfull experiance for him and it was. He wanted to stay with James.

 Here are some pictures of the thunb ring. Like Pat said, if you are right handed you put the arrow on the right side of the bow. Being left eye dominate , this actually se3ems to improve my shooting.
