mould on bamboo--update
« on: January 24, 2011, 02:31:01 pm »
Hi everyone, dont know if you remember, I posted some pics of a mould that grew on my boo, and asked if anyone had seen it before. Well I did some research and I now believe it to be called 'stain fungi' this doesnt supposedly affect the integrity of the fibres. By the looks of it under a lense the fibres looked intact, just coloured, so,  anyway I risked it and tested a slat as a backing fora bow. To my relief the boo was good.... ;D one limb was stained and the other wasnt and there was no discernable difference between them when the bow was tillered,
Thought I'd let you know in case others encountered the same problem.( There are bad moulds out there though that arent so harmless, )
'expansion and compression'.. the secret of life is to balance these two opposing forces.......
