New here, introducing myself
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:01:46 pm »
Been a traditional bowhunter for sometime now and always an intrest in Primitive Archery as well. I'm looking at building myself a bow, but to be honest with you I don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated. Happy to meet all of you!

Welcome!  Lots of good folks on here.  In addition to here, a good general start would be the Traditional Bowyers Bible series.  It's a lot of jargon and information at first, but it starts to make sense after a while.

Welcome.  I'd first post up the general area you're from and see if anybody's near you.  Getting around other bowyers is flat out the best way to learn.

Welcome!  Like mentioned above, there are a lot of great books on bow building.  The Traditional Bowyers Bible vol. 1-4, The Bent Stick, Bows and arrows of the Native Americans, and Hunting the Osage Bow are all great resources.  If you look on this site, there are almost 400 pages of threads in the "bows" section.  I like to turn on some BB King and start reading.  I keep a notepad by the computer and keep track of what page I stop on so I can pick back up later.  There are some great posts back there.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Welcome Frass!  On second thought, that's not a good thing to call you.  "Frass" is the technical name for bug poop.  Ok, Frassetor it is!

Let us know where you are located, there is a good chance one of us might be close by and might be willing to help you get your feet wet!

Nice to have you here this site is the best, some very friendly, helpful people, and you can get a ton of info from the search function. I would also recomend the bowyers bibles, and do a search for bow woods, im sure you have lots of great bow wood in your area?
my friends think my shops a mess, my wife thinks I have too much bow wood, my neighbors think im redneck white trash and they may all be right on the money!!

Osage, B.B. is good for reading but I put John Mayall on when I'm scraping on a bow
