Arm Guard - A couple more on the go
« on: January 16, 2011, 09:15:02 pm »
So I had some time to kill this afternoon and had the urge to "create", so I thought I'd try my hand at doing some leatherwork.  I bought a bunch of carving/stamping tools from Tandy a while ago and had not used them yet, so I figured I'd have a go at trying to do some tooling on a new arm guard.  At first I was making it for my dad to go along with the bow that I gave him for Christmas, but I think it turned out so nice, he'll have to use my old one  >:D

I didn't think to start taking pictures until after the tooling was done, but there are a few pictures showing what I used and the progression as I stained the leather.  I still have to put a sealer on it and then install the boot hooks and elastic cord, so I'll add another pic once it's totally done.  I think it turned out pretty good for going into it blind, not having tooled or stained leather before.

You can see how much the leather stretched from the tooling compared to the pattern on the second pic here

Thanks guys!

Adam, I'll trade you for a warbow  ;) Er what? ha ha  You're probably right though.  Me saying "I need to get some materials" is only going to work for so long, and I think she's getting sick of hearing excuses.  I got a couple days before her parents let me use their truck to get lumber/drywall, so I figured I'd get some hobby time in yet while I could!

I just realized I'm low on those boot hooks, this is going to have to be finished another day.

Thanks again guys.

Nate, I can make you one, I'm just not sure how soon it will get done.  I'm about to start a big project - rebuilding my basement that was flooded last summer.  So I may be tied up for a while.  I've been putting it off far too long (just ask my girlfriend!!)

But that will give you lots of time to think about what you can trade for it :)
