String Making Quick Braid
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:43:27 pm »
A few years ago Ed Scott taught me this quick way of making a string out of b-50. He called it the "Scott Twist"  Takes less than five minutes.

Start with 3 bundles of 5.                            Twist each bundle away from you. Then 1 bundle over the otner 2bundles(1 over 2and3,  2 over 3 and 1 ...) 20 or so times and keep twisting each bundle  as you lay them over the other 2.

form a loop and pair the bundles by twisting them together

Then make a simple braid until your past your tag ends.  Tie a bowyers knot for the other side.  Simple

oneeye,

I'm not sure from your description but are you essentially making a Flemish twist for only the eye/loop then plaiting/braiding the tail rather than laying it in?

If so then wouldn't this produce an inferior string as the platted/braided tails would stretch each time the bow is shot?

Craig.
