Anyone have a source for Japanese cane shafts.
« on: January 19, 2011, 07:23:16 pm »
I've made a lot of cane arrows in the past but prefer the Japanese cane over Tonkin and the inferior China cane that I've used.
My supplier for the Japanese cane seems to have vanished. Do any of you know of a good supplier?
I have switched to mainly selfbows and need to make up a few dozen good arrows.
Any help would be appreciated.

May I ask what spine and length you are looking for?

stringstretcher,
The bows are rated 52-55#@28.
Although none of these bows are center, I've found that 10# additional spine will probably work for me. My draw is generally 28.5 to 29 depending on the bow.
Given the natural taper, my draw, and heavy front loading, I would assume that 65#'s should work fine. I normally leave cane shafts 33".
Let me know what you think?

Jaap Kopperdayer has Japenese arrow bamboo. He now resides in Georgia. Google for Yumi bows.
Frank from Germany...

Fred.  If you can give me a couple of days, I am sure I can find you some.  If I don't have any right now, the next time I go cut I am sure i will.  I am sure I will be cutting the first few days of good weather we have here, after all this ice and snow if it has not mashed the cane down too much.  You want just seasoned cane right?  And about how many do you want?

Thanks guys. I've been in touch with Jaap and he seems to have an abundance. Stringstretcher, I sent you a PM.
