Hey all,
This is a bamboo backed hickory bow with an accent of Bocote on the riser. The bamboo backing is the same one that I used to back a piece of purpleheart that failed because the new owner of the bow bent it the wrong way. I posted pics of this tragedy back on 8-8-10 (Broken Bow: you make the call) but managed to separate the perfect bamboo backing from the damaged purpleheart. The hickory "core" was one that seemed to have an inherent propeller twist and was placed in the corner of shame while the Bocote was a pen blank I picked up from the bargain bin at the local woodworkers supply store. To be honest I wasn't expecting much out of this bow and was doing it more to keep my hands busy in between projects. The bow ended up being 52#@28", 70" long (68"NTN) and is without a doubt the smoothest, least hand shock bow I have ever made. The propeller twist seemed to vanish (mostly) and the paintings were done with Sharpie Fine line paint pens. Merry Christmas to me!
And Happy Holidays and New Year to everyone on the message boards!!!
