I've been in a knife making mood lately, and I've been working on this one pretty intensely for about a week and a half.
It still needs another coat or two of finish, but I was a little too eager to show it off.
Anyway, this is my sgian dubh; a small Scottish knife. The blade is made from leaf spring steel, with a slightly convex bevel that covers the full width of the blade. The handle and sheath are of red oak with cocobolo accents. The vinework, I don't think, is as nice as my last one, but it'll do.
The sheath is my first wooden one, and it just about killed me to get the blade to fit correctly. But what's on the inside won't show, eh?
Overall (sheathed), it's about 8" long, and the blades measures just under 3.5".
It's a bit heavy for the traditional Scotch use for these knives, that being sort of an original 'boot knife', but I don't wear the tall socks that I would need to slide it into.
The knife has a very sturdy feel to it. But that's probably due to the really thick blade.
