Coffee and hunting
« on: December 09, 2010, 07:33:10 am »
Just courious to see how many take coffee to your stand/blind and drink it during a hunt.  And would love to know what methods you use to keep your coffee good and hot.  Cup/thermos/mug or what ever.  Especially you ground blind hunters?

I always have a thermos full when I'm duck hunting, which may not be the best idea (ever tried to take off 5 layers of clothes, plus waders in freezing temps to take a leak?).  As far as deer hunting just one cup, it's a biggun though, in the truck.

this might be the place to bring this up ive been wondering after reading an issue of petersons bowhunting where they stated that you could urinate from the stand or wherever you were hunting without any ill effects. this goes against everything i was taught and belive ....but then hell ive been wrong a time or two .....today !
they went on to explain that human pee had no special ordor and was just pee to the animals .... anyone have any knowledge of this ?

also i limit myself to half a cup before leaving for the woods

i have a friend who is very deep into hunting deer, hes like them nuts on the hunting shows
out scoutung year round, all his free time is dedicated to scouting, making food plots, more scouting, make funnels from brush etc
setting up tral cams, many many blinds and stands, maing scrapes.well you get the idea

he to swears up and down that human urine has no effect in the woods
he told me he actualy peed in a scrape just to see what would happen
he then showed me pics from his trail cam, with a  big daddy ol' buck redoing the scrape to cover up the human pee
the following week he shot that big ol' buck  >:D
showed him who was the dominant male in the woods that year  ;D

i take coffee with when i hunt, turkey and deer
when i am in my ground blind i either hold it or keep a bottle at the ready( im like pappy and the others on this   ;D )
if i am stalk and spot hu nting i just go where i am at when the feeling hits me

I take coffee when turkey hunting but not when deer hunting!! :)

I don't think deer are "spooked" a bit by the smell of human urine!! ;)

I think it was Stanford University that did a study on deer/human urine and found there was no difference in the smell of urine.

I won't drink at all while I'm out.  Not anything to do with the odor, but more so for fear of being caught with my pants down and ruining all of the time I've put in to the hunt.  ;D

I am with Pappy on this one, old age issues dictate no excess liquids while hunting or I wouldn't have time to hunt, too busy taking care of other things.

It is terrible how a prostrate gland the size of a melon will ruin the joy of a pot of coffee in the morning, or a cup of tea at night.
