quartz agate

 heres some of the hardest rock i ever hit.  its quartz agate that i  picked up here locally.  in  east central al.  there is no chert were i live. just quartz, and this agate.  it does'nt work like flint either cause it likes to hinge and break into small pieces.  i used copper to hit it then antler to pressure flake it.  its to hard to work raw so it likes 5oo then it turns rosey and waxy like.  it makes great palmers and agate basin points.  and i sold a few arrows at a art show recently to guys who liked the fact it was local and i used a 2 feather fletch wich they never saw before.  i  use to find points out of this and always called it rose quartz,  but after studying and examineing it i no its a agate now. hers some raw cooked made a palmer out of the top pic

Dink had some of that about 3 years ago.  It makes knapping rhyolite easy.  Is that sometimes called Jackson agate?  Bill

all this is heat treated except the one spall.  and not sure bill,  i'll have to research some more
