osage therapy bow
« on: December 07, 2010, 02:15:11 pm »
Here is a bow I made for a friend I had been doing physical therapy with, for a shoulder injury. He was has been a competition pistol shooter for the past twenty years of his life and upon finding out that I made bows he was quickly interested.  Learning to shoot this bow was a totally new experience for him, but he is hooked. His shoulder has healed up well and he can get out and shoot daily with no problem(which was far from the case when i first gave him the bow).

here it is, 67" Osage 1.375 at the fades .25 at the tips. Its 40#@27".  The snakes are WDB and the strike plate is WDB belly skin.  I was pretty impressed with the cast for this lighter weight bow. I have been making too many short bows lately, I'm gonna have to make a strong arm version of this long bow for my personal use sometime soon.

yes I did catch poison ivy while taking these photos, and yes I knew I was kneeling in it in my FD picture lol ;D ;D ;D

That is a pretty bending bow and yes a light bow can hve good cast with a good design with out excess mass shooting propper arrows. All bows are therapy bows in one way or another, this is an exceptional one and  I am glad it helped your friend.
May all of your moments afield with bow in hand please and satisfy you.            G. Fred Asbell

Thanks guys. much appreciated, I need to start posting more of my bows, I get sidetracked pretty easy though  ;D

I decided while making this bow that I really like the chocolate brown leather on the orange wood color combo. Ill probably be using it on the next Osage i put out.

Great looking Bow! I especially like the strike plte idea. Is anything behind the belly skin to reinforce it?

Postman: Not really, I just glued a nice thick piece on with some gorrila SG.  I have done this on a couple bows, i like how it ties in with the snake backings.  they hold up relatively well after in my experience, after a couple months worth of shooting one.
