Knife for my son (new Picture)
« on: December 17, 2010, 01:56:02 pm »
Just finished this little bowie for my four year old. No edge on it, he just wanted one to use when he goes out "hunting" hogs and deer in our yard.
He'll get it Christmas morning!

Nice. I am sure he will LOVE it

That's awesome.  Love the safety tip :)  Wish I had one when I was 4... maybe I wouldn't have had to play with matches then :)

Is the finger guard antler or bone?  I like it.

I really can't wait till he gets to open it. He is so funny, and so into primitive stuff. I was working in this little tiny bow for my almost two year old daughter and he was painting on some arrows for it with me (I will post it in the bow section this week) when he looked at the bow longingly and said " you know daddy, sissy is more of a stuffed animal girl, maybe I could shoot that bow." I laughed right out loud.
The finger guard on this little one is made of an antler tip. I really like how it turned out. I think I'll try that on my next big boy knife. I also used marine white 15 min epoxy and as long as the bone or antler is real light colored you can't see any glue joint. Wish I'd have thought of that sooner.

That's a beauty! :o  One lucky little boy, and he is right, a doll, or a stuffed animal/target, will suffice for his sister...... ;D ;D
Is that made from good steel?  If he doesn't lose it trying to stick it in trees, like Jim Bowie, Like I used to do, he will have a nice knife, when he reaches a more responsible age, you can sharpen the edge, and tip, and he will have a very nice hunting knife, he is very familiar with.  Very nice! ;)

Well, it is his favorite gift. My kids are lucky as they are the only grandchildren on my wife's side of the family so they get all kinds of stuff from the grandparents and two single aunts who adore them.
This was the third gift he opened and for all the rest he had th use the knife to get them opened. After all the gifts were opened he asked me to lay down "like a dead bear" so he could practice skinning.
I love how his little brain works!
