Homemade Wallet
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:25:22 pm »
I thought some of you might like to see some pictures of a wallet that I made for myself.  It's made out of a stingray skin that I got from Tandy leather.  I really like the pattern on it.  The skin was almost the perfect size for this.  I made the lace from some of the cut off pieces and there was very little waste.

I don't care for having a huge wallet in my pocket, I just like to carry the bare necessities.  I think with will do the trick quite nicely.

Very nice.  Stingray makes some nice leather.  And to think I have been throwing them back!  Oh, could you slide the Canadian credit card, and ID, out a bit, I uh....want to see how it contrasts with the wallet eh...... ::)

Jeeze, I heard the economy was bad down there, but I wouldn't have thought that you guys forgot what money was already :)

Wayne, I think the contrast shows just fine in those pictures  ;D

Thats a pretty nice wallet to be sticking Monopoly money in it... JK, but how well does stingray work? Does it hold up well, because I would think it would wear quickly when worn. I am talking from previous experience, but I would like making one of these if it is durable.

Well, I can't speak from experience because I just made this and have never used stingray before, but I have read that it is very durable.  Aside from the bumps on it, it looks just like leather, so I would imagine it would wear like leather.  Maybe someone else has used it before?

Hi Folks,  I have a commercially made wallet that is made from stingray.  I used it ~ 5 years and finally retired it because the insides were falling apart.  The stingray skin is nearly new looking though.    Ron

Saw those skins down at Tandy and had the same though...of course I can't do it now because it's already been done.  Harumph!

Nice work.

That's how they come.  There's a bunch of different types of print on them too at Tandy Leatherworks (leopard print, zebra, etc.) if you're into that sorta thing :)

The black ones looked the nicest to me.
