Riser Wood Combos
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:16:51 pm »
Just wondering how creative everybody gets (or not) with their riser build-up on the bows they build. Guess it depends on how fancy or primitive the bow gets...likely more on the laminated bows.

What wood combos do you all prefer?

Generally my bows don't have risers because I like them to bend right to or through the handle. If I do use wood I use something thin and flexable or I use leather.

I like to use contrasting woods alot, especially satinwood, (yellowheart) purplheart, and padauk.  Here's a few pics of my handles.

Josh, I hope to do a riser soon with yellowheart accent and bloodwood. or maybe bloodwood with a maple accent strip.

Cool!  Either combination will look pretty good I think.  I usually try and make my tip overlays match my handle riser too.  Just because.  :)

It's prune wood, and maple backed purpleheart.
But yes, I don't need to have it that fancy all the time...
