been laid up since sept. with a leg full of steel pins and screws so i havent been able to do much.got out yesterday and tried the leg and cut me some slippery elm. wasnt a very gracefull show but heres what i ended up with.hope the pic comes through, i havent got very good computer service.

     Me and you share the plates, pins and screws....still bothers some after 10 years......but hey, ya got the hard part done, cause them staves is definately down and dead so from now on all ya gots to do is sneak up on 'em nice and slow.....piece of cake.

thanks men and frank the staves are 72 long. got them stripped of bark and drying now so the wait is on. i have pretty much been a osage guy with some locust from time to time but all the great elm bows i keep seing has got me wanting to try some.

hey del those wedges are new, left two in the woods a year ago and went back for them and they were gone,like to see the squirell that carried them off.the other two are planner blades, i use them for starter cuts. ive seen some long thin wide ones like gary davis uses in his video but cant find any for sale.

Good stuff for sure. Take your time. Listen to the docs and to your body. If they say you can make bows in 2 months and you feel you need more time. Take it. Jawge

thanks George. ive had to do just that, this has been the most tramatic thing [body wise ]to ever happen to me. first time in my life i wasnt able to get out and hunt with my bow.just to clear things up i shattered the left femer and tore up the knee.femer surgery is done, the knee surgery Dec. 8. you know we tell people its not hard to build a bow, but when you cant use the power of your legs it becomes a real wakening how much power is needed to work a draw knife or coarse rasp. i know it made it alot easier having the company of this site to entertain me while i couldnt do what i love. thanks to you all.

Yeah, those furry critter will run off with your tools no prob'.
I found a fox in my workshop one evening, not sure what it was after, probably my axe

that elm looks like some very nice wood,staight too 

i did almost the exact same thing as you did there
i had shoulder surgery a few years back
whilei was sitting at home recoverying for many many weeks
i decided i need to do something,so i went and split about 5 hhb logs into staves
like you,it wasnt a very gracefull show but it got done and i got that feeling of satisfaction of getting something done on my one again
now take it easy for awhile,that wood needs to cure some now,let thast leg do some more healing
