how to reflex deflex laminante bows?

Im still having difficulty understanding how to put a bend in a laminante bow. Do you steam and bend each lamination before glueing? Im assuming there are differnet techniques. Is one better then another? Also, I saw someone posted a pic of a bow made with osage and purple heart that looked amazing. I was thinking of doing something with maple, osage, and purple heart but not sure what. Maybe maple back, purple heart core, osage belly? Any ideas?

Laminations will be bend to shape while glueing; no steaming or dry heating. Thin laminations will take any bend you want in a form.

Maple is not a good backing for such a strong bellywood as Osage; Hickory would be good, or bamboo. I have actually used maple to back purple heart with nice result.

i have done it with his products and it works very well
to bad my poor attempt at tillering caused the bow to chrysal  ;D ;)

Hey I think I can do that! Ha ha aha! Thanks sailordad the pics on that site were good. Now I understand. I think your right medicinewheel. Maybe Ill just use osage and purple heart for the handle or a small decorative lamination on the belly or back.

Purple heart will make a nice contrast to osage on a riser, but it could be a great corewood, too, if you plan on making a trilam.

Maple makes a fine backing for osage, and I've made several, mostly ELBs.

Wouldn't have thought so. - Used it on several bows as a backing, but mostly those not so strong in compression.
