40# bows are plenty lethal when the broadhead's sharp enough to work, the hunter is willing to wait for the proper shot, and has the ability to put that arrow where it can do the work it's intended for. You certainly hit all the criteria for an ethical (and most certainly exciting) kill. That meat nourishes the soul as well as the body, good work!
