Lemonwood

Anyone no where I could come up with a lemonwood stave? Pretty sure there are no lemon trees im Michigan that I would have access to

Is "lemonwood" just wood from a lemon fruit tree?

'True' lemonwood (degame) grows in Cuba and is not importable anymore from there. If you really want some, I have seen staves for sale from places in England, but you will pay allot for it. There is some wood called 'lemonwood' coming from some of the South & Central America countries.

There appears to be some that comes out of New Zealand and Argentina too.  But like Acacia there are probably differing types and thus differing qualities.

 I've got a lemon tree in my back yard, loaded down with lemons.

I found a place that has 1"X4" boards of lemonwood....no staves. I would think it would be really hard to find a stave of this stuff.

Gilmer hardwoods here in Portland often has lemonwood bow staves for sale. Ask for Jim.

Not sure, but I don't think the fruit tree is the same lemonwood popular with bowyers.

 Jeff, It's not. Lemonwood is not the same as the fruit tree. If you want the fruit, lemon, I can get you plenty.

I picked some lemons in Greece once that were as big as cantalopes, sweet as oranges and sour like a lemon. it made the best lemonade!   You ever harvested a limb to experiment with?  You get satsumas down that way Eddie?  They should be coming into ripe about now.

 The lemon you were talking about sounds like a Ponderosa, loved to eat them. The satsuma's and Sun Sweets won't get ripe till just before Christmas.

 Wild oranges, and other citrus trees make good bows. You just treat them like white wood, which they are. The wild or sour orange is the best. You find them back in the woods growing tall and straight.
