Turkey Call
« on: November 06, 2010, 05:26:38 pm »
I was out at my good friend Charlie's house today and came home with a great gift. Charlie is making calls for the Banquet in Nashville, and I saw this one sitting on his table. I thought it was not only pretty but it made the kind of sounds I like to use. I offered to buy it if it didn't sell. I didn't have to do that, he suprised me by putting it in my Jeep before I left.
I feel really blessed to have good friends. The lid is ebony and the box is spalted poplar.

Thanks, Pat, Charlie, (Indian Charlie) on this site makes some fantastic box calls and scratch box calls. I've been hunting with his calls since day one.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to see this, Tim ;D. It is nice, I've beat up the first box call I got from him, but it still sounds sweet. PM me if you want his email address.

A friend of mine is a Regional Director for the NWTF and he comes home from the big show each year with several new fancy box calls.  He is pretty picky because he's been collecting long enough to get most everything that is out there, but that would certainly fit right into his collection.

It's not that hard to make a beautiful box call out of highly figured wood...but to make one that calls sweet as well is serious ART.  Tell your friend I covet your sweet li'l box call.

If your friend collects box calls I'd bet he knows Tim Beach, owner of the Alexacarrie Plantation. Tim spends quite a bit every year collecting calls. He has quite a few of Charlie's.
