Tiller pic . Updated pic added

I'm looking for a good picture to judge tiller by for a mild reflex deflex bow. I have looked through the archives and back issues and have noticed a lot of difference in full draw photos. I know tiller should reflect front profile but some look elliptical and some circular  then some sort of mixed. Some are BOM winners so I'm guessing tiller was good. I have also noticed lots of bows advertised at XX pounds at 28" but they look to be short drawn to me. Do you tiller out to 28 even if you only draw 26 ?

Hey Jeff,
      I got to believe if the bow was going to be yours for sure I'd tiller it to fit you. If there's any chance you'll give it away ya might want to tiller it out to 28" (would fit more people). As far as the bend profile, somebody that knows more than me is gonna have to tell about that.

as far as the tiller being good on BOM winning bows
just cause they win dont mean they were the best tillered bow that month
just means it tickled the fancy of the most folks that voted

I find R/D bows very difficult to tiller so I don't build them.  In my opinion I like them with a circular tiller that follows the lines initiated by the deflexed handle. To achieve this you have to get the tips to open right at full draw. I think this gives you the full potential of the limb shape...but what do I know. I've never built one.     I think you have to figure out where the stresses are at different draw lengths so the limbs open properly.

I have another question. If I want 50lbs @ 27" how do I tiller it to 29 so it would be safer if I let someone else shoot it, how do you tiller it out and not draw past your intended weight?
 Also could use a good tiller photo for reference, anyone seen a favorite of this type you could point me to?

Not sure on that style but most I would tiller 56@29 and that should be arounf 50@27.Most bows will pick up 2 1/2 to 3 lbs and inch.

Is this a selfbow?  Remember you need the proper design to achieve that 29" draw. I'm specifically talking about length. There are 2 school of thought in a reflex design. You can either tiller them as Pat described or you can tiller the tips slightly stiff. That's your call. My call is tips slightly stiff. Jawge

Heres what all the questions are for. Ipe/Boo , pyramid front profile. mild reflex deflex from midlimb. 62" tip 2 tip, 61 nock 2 nock. Belly was cut straight taper pyramid style for ease of constuction. Boo is tapered from middle to tips. Done this way because I'm away from home trying to maintain my sanity by building bows/arrows in my TINY apartment.

     I agree with Ken i believe that full draw pic is about perfect (at least for my taste) and the unbraced pic is a very nice profile as well.

I struggle with tiller , especially when I don't know what proper is . I wish there was a tutorial on the proper use of windows paint or paint.net . I think it would be a big help . Some of you guys make this stuff look easy.

jeff your tiller is perfect based on your unbraced profile . i would shoot the crap out of it

 The full draw looks good to me. If I'm tillering a slightly R/D bow like those pictured I like a tiller like you posted. If it is a highly R/D, a lot of limb curve sticking above the handle, I'll scrape slowly till the top part of the limb breaks over.

 You really have to take your time in the final tiller with a bow like this or you end up with limbs that don't match or a hinge.
